Patterned tiles are making their way back into interiors in a big way, including the arabesque. This style of decoration has a rich history that dates back thousands of years to Hellenistic artisans working in Asia Minor. Its ornamental design originated from a naturalistic theme of intertwining plants as well as abstract curvilinear patterns. From the Renaissance until the 19th century, they were used in Europe to decorate everything from pottery to furniture to walls, including the open galleries of the Vatican. Today, you can find arabesque featured as backsplash tile in a kitchen, a unique feature wall in an entryway, or a shower surround in the bathroom. Depending on the size, color, and finish, the exotic designs of arabesque tiles beautifully blend well with traditional to contemporary décor, and they’ll give your space an elegant, refined look in an updated fashion.

Bianco Arabesque

But let’s face it, a historic brick wall isn’t always realistic… but it’s totally attainable. You can easily recreate the look with porcelain brick tile!

Dress up a wall in your home with porcelain bricks to achieve that stumbled-upon, vintage look. This open and airy dining room showcases an accent wall featuring Capella Ivory Brick that brings a little extra oomph to the space – modern, trendy, stylish.

Fine Lines

When new tile style is introduced, there are always a few tricks of the trade that can help take your design scheme to the next level. In this case, you’ll need to pay attention to the size and color of the grout lines.

If you’re considering a rustic-look brick like Capella Red or Capella Taupe, choose a grout color similar to actual brick mortar. Our favorite grout colors are Custom Building Products’ Oyster Gray #386 and Bleached Wood #545. Usually, it’s recommended to match grout color with the base color of the tile; however, sticking to true mortar colors will give the brick install a more realistic look. Also, make sure your installer uses a ½" to ¾" grout joint size to play up that mortared look.

Step Up Your Style

Just like discovering that surprise brick wall, ripping out your carpet and finding an incredible, aged brick floor probably isn’t going to happen. But don’t fret. Porcelain bricks fashion gorgeous and unforgettable floors too. One of our favorite brick floor installs gets a little creative by installing the tiles in a herringbone pattern.

Herringbone designs deliver high style with a familiar pattern that works in both traditional and ultra-modern spaces. Wouldn’t you want to fold laundry in this mudroom? Houzz users voted an overwhelming “Yes!” One of the most popular images on the site, this stunning laundry room helped MSI win a 2016 Best of Design Award.

If you're fortunate enough to have a fireplace in your home, you know how it becomes not just the focal point of the room, but the heart of the house. Particularly on a cold winter day, nothing draws people together like a warm, inviting hearth. But you want it to look spectacular every day of the year, right? Not just when there's a blazing fire? Granite slabs can create the sophisticated look you desire – one that goes with every mood: cozy, sleek, classic, or contemporary – but above all, utterly timeless.

MSI offers granite slabs in several colors for your fireplace facings. No matter which granite color you choose, you can be assured it will hold up well over time, will resist stains (including smoke damage), and need next to no maintenance to keep its beautiful shine. Browse our vast selection of granite colors and choose which colorway you like best… but we bet you'll still find it hard to choose!

Juparana Persia

Featured; Juparana Persia Granite

With its gold, white, and gray tones, Juparana Persia adds an exotic warmth to your home. It's easy to match with most color schemes, particularly rich jewel tones. This granite comes from Brazil, and in addition to fireplace surrounds, you can use it for countertops, backsplashes, and even flooring – which means you could easily coordinate your fireplace with your kitchen, a very useful idea for today's popular open-concept house designs.

Agatha Black

Featured: Agatha Black Granite

The bold white veins accenting glossy jet black make Agatha Black granite a dramatic addition to the room – but an easy one to pull off. A conservative choice might be to pair it with satin-sheen gray walls, with pops of color in your furniture and accessories. With its durability, you may want this granite installed as flooring in front of your hearth as well.

White Supreme

Featured: White Supreme Granite

The classic elegance of White Supreme works perfectly in a traditional fireplace installation, but why settle for the ordinary? Take advantage of its eye-catching, but never overpowering contrast and variegation, and install it over large expanses of wall space where the patterning can truly shine.

Caravelas Gold

Featured: Caravelas Gold Granite

Something about Caravelas Gold just inspires creativity. It delivers rich swirls of cream, brown, and gray with high contrast, which creates stunning patterns, especially in large installations. This colorway pairs well with wood, chrome, porcelain tile, and many other different materials. How will you make the most of this natural stone beauty?

Tan Brown

Featured: Tan Brown Granite

Consider how a blazing fire would bring out the rich mahogany highlights in Tan Brown granite. This colorway is brown, black, and gray, and is as warm and cozy as a cashmere sweater or a hot cup of sweet cocoa. Its high-contrast variegation is eye-catching and easy to match with just about any style of home décor, from contemporary to classic and even rustic.

All of the granite slabs described here may be used for just about any surface in your home – flooring, countertops, backsplashes, bar toppers – but that's not all. Outdoor fireplaces have become popular, and MSI's granite slabs are durable enough to be used in exterior applications as well. This opens up so many possibilities and design options, both inside and out. Nothing draws people together like a fireplace, and nothing sets the perfect stage for that cozy fire like granite.

Little things mean a lot, especially when it comes to home décor. Specifically, smaller-sized mosaic tile! Large-format slabs and tiles have their place, but if you want your home to look like a million bucks, it's the minute details – the sparkle, contrast, and texture – that only small-tile mosaics can bring.

Eclipse Interlocking

Featured: Eclipse Interlocking

The subtle, varying textures in Eclipse Interlocking mosaic tile add big drama in small spaces, without being overwhelming. This combination, due to its texture, is stunning when lit from above, such as with under-cabinet lighting on kitchen backsplash tile. It combines glossy glass, natural-look stone, and metallic tiles in shades of gray ranging from pale to nearly black.

Vienna Blend Brick

Featured: Vienna Blend Brick

Small mosaic tiles shine brightest when they feature a mixture of materials, colors and textures. Vienna Blend Brick features an interlocking combo of 2-inch-long rectangular tiles in popular colors: transparent glass, brushed metal, and beige Crema Marfil in both smooth and textured. Not only does this mosaic work beautifully as backsplash or wall tile, but it is also tough enough to create amazing floors.

Silver Tip

Featured: Silver Tip

The pattern created in Silver Tip is easy to coordinate with other elements of your décor because it combines several shades of neutrals: brushed metal, glossy glass, and natural stone, with lively variation. There's amazing detail in these little 2-inch-long tiles, arranged like brickwork. Use this in bold, contemporary designs any way you wish, alone or in combination with other tiles or materials. It works for flooring as well as backsplashes and countertops.

Desert Sunset

Featured: Desert Sunset

Arranged in a classic square grid pattern, Desert Sunset mosaic tile is anything but ordinary. It offers petite 3/4-inch square glass tiles, both opaque and iridescent, in shades of cocoa-brown, ivory, and beige. The random pattern makes it a snap to match up each section, which comes in 12-inch pre-arranged mesh squares. These tiles are as tough as they are beautiful, and can be used as countertops and backsplashes, on walls, and as flooring.

Sandy Beaches Blend

Featured: Sandy Beaches Blend

Bring the beauty of the seashore into your home with Sandy Beaches Blend mosaic tile. It offers all the colors you find on the beach: pale silica-sand white, earthy brown, soft gray, and jet black, all in a crackle-textured glass, in 1- by 2-inch smooth-edged rectangles. OK, it won't really make you feel like you're on a tropical island, but it's a comfortable, nature-inspired blend and super-easy to match with other elements in your home. You can use this mosaic tile for flooring in light-use areas, but vertical applications are where it shines – your shower walls, fireplace, or kitchen backsplash. It's a natural choice.

Don't shy away from using small tiles to create big drama in your decorating scheme! With MSI's pre-arranged tile mosaic sheets, your installations will look like they took many hours, and thousands of dollars, but you'll be surprised at how simple it can be to get exactly the look you've been longing for.
